Barry Cohen has been Executive Director of Rainbow Research, Inc. since 1998. He has 35 years of experience in research, evaluation, planning and training in fields such as public health and eliminating health disparities; alcohol, tobacco and other drugs; violence prevention; after-school enrichment; school desegregation; systems advocacy, mentoring, social services, and welfare reform.
He came to Rainbow Research after serving as Director of Research and Planning for the United Way of the Minneapolis Area. His work included outcome assessment and evaluation capacity building for several hundred programs in over 180 agencies. He led the United Way through award winning needs assessments, environmental scans, a community indicators project and a strategic planning process.
Cohen holds Masters and PhD degrees in Sociology from the University of Minnesota. He served for 20 years as a clinical assistant professor of Social Work at the University of Minnesota, and has served on the Sociology faculties of Macalester College, Tulane University, the College of St. Catherine, and the University of Minnesota. In 2006, he served as president of the Minnesota Evaluation Association. He also serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Community Psychology.
