Healthy Eating Minnesota Community:

University of Minnesota – Morris

“Morris Healthy Eating”

Project Description

The University of Minnesota–Morris (UMM) believes that if the food environment on campus is changed to promote health, the eating behaviors among students, faculty and staff will improve and the positive impacts will ripple out through the city of Morris and into the region.

To accomplish this goal, UMM is teaming with Sodexo, the campus dining services provider, Stevens Community Medical Center, the Pomme de Terre Food Co-op, Pride of the Prairie Local Foods Initiative and numerous campus and community groups.

Together, the partnership will select goals and strategies that may include implementing a campus dining wellness plan, working to increase farmers markets, expanding food co-op product offerings to include fresh fruits and vegetables, increasing access to campus and community gardens, and establishing a Green Prairie Living and Learning Community that includes student gardens and community kitchens where students cook locally sourced community meals.
