Building Community Capacity: The Potential of Community
Foundations (1994)
by Steven E. Mayer
Drawing on analysis of 18 community initiatives around the country, this book
describes the three key ingredients for building strong communities: commitment,
resources, and skills. "Community builders" will learn about strategies
to build their own organizations and help them become more useful to their constituents
and the larger community. The book is based on a five year evaluation of the
Leadership Program for Community Foundations, sponsored by the Ford and MacArthur
Foundations.
