Evaluation of the Culturally Tailored Tobacco Cessation Programs
Client: ClearWay Minnesota
2004–present
Contact: Barry Cohen

ClearWay Minnesota has contracted with Rainbow to conduct an evaluation of their Culturally Tailored Tobacco Cessation Program, which funds five grantees to adapt and implement model tobacco cessation programs in their cultural communities (African American, Somali, American Indian, Southeast Asian, and Latino).  Rainbow has documented some interesting examples of cultural disconnects with the program models and the necessary adaptations that have made along the way.

The Rainbow team adapted standardized instrumentation to assess cessation success across time among program participants, document cultural and other adaptations to the program models, assess participant satisfaction and gather feedback.  Instruments have been translated and back translated for the five first languages among these groups.  Rainbow works with each grantee organization to integrate the evaluation tools and procedures into their program delivery, to collect data, and to use the quarterly feedback reports on the data, which Rainbow provides back to the grantees and the funder.
