Rainbow Research is working with the University of Minnesota to conduct an evaluation of a three-phase initiative aimed at increasing participation among youth in out-of-school time programs. The Youth Action Crew is a youth-leadership project being conducted in five neighborhoods of Minneapolis where, in Phase I, youth conduct assessments of neighborhoods to determine where youth programs are located, who the key stakeholders for youth are in the neighborhoods, and what the knowledge levels of youth are about opportunities available to them in their neighborhoods. The second phase of the project involves the youth conducting a marketing campaign to let youth know about the existing opportunities in their neighborhood, and in the third phase youth are organized to promote activities they want to see in their neighborhood. Rainbow is conducting focus groups and interviews with youth, and staff, and compiling information collected by youth.
